Tao Yuanming Memorial Hall in Chaisang of Jiujiang

The Tao Yuanming Memorial Hall in Chaisang District, Jiujiang City is located at No. 18 Gongyuan Road, Shahe Street Town, Chaisang District, Jiujiang City. It was established to commemorate the poet Tao Yuanming of the Eastern Jin Dynasty. Established in 1982, the museum was named by Xu Deheng, former Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress. It was completed and opened to the public in July 1985. Responsible for the collection, protection, research, and promotion of Tao Yuanming's literature (cultural relics), as well as other historical relics (specimens) and revolutionary relics.


The museum covers an area of approximately 26000 square meters, with a building area of 2600 square meters. It consists of three parts: the Memorial Hall, the Tao Jingjie Temple, and the Tao Yuanming Tomb, with attractions such as the Returning Pavilion, the Stele Gallery, and the Ink Washing Pool. The memorial hall also features an "Exhibition of Tao Yuanming's Life", showcasing the poet's life achievements, activity routes, relics pictures, and a timeline of major events. The total collection is 1369 pieces/set, including 1 first level cultural relic/set, 18 second level cultural relics/set, 159 third level cultural relics/set, 1180 general cultural relics/set, and 11 unclassified cultural relics/set.


According to the requirements of the Notice on Free Opening of National Museums and Monuments jointly issued by the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Culture and the National Cutural Heritage Administration, Tao Yuanming Memorial Hall was opened for free in 2008.


Tao Jingjie Temple is a cultural relic protection unit in Jiangxi Province. The original ancestral temple was relocated to its current site in 1982 with the approval of the national and provincial cultural relics regulatory authorities, after returning to Yangshan on the mountain. The temple is located northeast to southwest in the style of Ming and Qing Jiangnan folk houses, with a brick and wood structure, a lifting beam style frame, and a camel style mountain wall. It is divided into two entrances, front and back, with a courtyard in the middle and ear chambers and wing rooms on the sides, covering an area of 250 square meters. There are Yuanming statues, couplets, plaques, and inscriptions.


Tao Yuanming Tomb, a cultural relic protection unit in Jiangxi Province. Located on Yangshan Mountain in the face of Mahui Ridge, the tomb faces north and south, with an oval arched outer shell and a brick and stone structure. The tombstone is of the "three door style", with the four characters "Qingfeng Gaojie" engraved on the horizontal. The middle tombstone is inscribed with the words "Tomb of Mr. Jingjie, a Jinshi Tao Gong". The left tombstone is inscribed with the inscription "Biography of Mr. Wuliu", and the right is inscribed with the words "Returning to Xici" and "Name and Year of the person who re ordered the tombstone in the first year of the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty". The original tomb is now located within the wall of a navy unit of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, which is not convenient for tourists to pay homage and worship. In 1995, when Tao Yuanming was born in 1630, in order to make it convenient for tourists at home and abroad to pay homage and worship, Chaisang District copied Tao Yuanming's tomb in Mianyang Mountain into Tao Yuanming Memorial Hall. The whole tomb area is about 10 mu, consisting of memorial archway, Shinto Way, rest pavilion and tomb.
